Caraboosh
We found this horse tied up opposite the Police station. He was tied to a cart and had been left without food or water for days. We went down to try and establish who owned the horse, and of course to give him a drink and some food. We were told that the owner had been arrested and that the police had compounded the horse and cart!!
We visited the horse several times a day with food and water..... He was so desperate, that he would call to us when he saw the truck coming. After a huge fight and a lot of red tape the police finally allowed us to take him to the centre, so we could care for him until his owner had been to court.
One of our stable staff, Nazzer, has spent a lot of time with him, and he gained the name of Caraboosh (which means prison in Egyptian Arabic!).
This once very nervous horse has now formed a special bond with Nazzer. He is now a healthy happy horse with bundles of energy! The picture below shows him a very different horse from the one we found, Nazzer is with him having just washed and groomed him, and is now giving him a cuddle! It just shows what can be done with a little TLC!
Since Caraboosh, we have had two more horses in the sam
e circumstances, Caraboosh2, and Caraboosh3! To stop this suffering and problem, and drain on our resources of regularly patrolling outside the Police Station, as well as to avoid the suffering incurred and cost it takes to get an animal back up to full health once it has been allowed to get to this poor condition. We have now organised an arrangement with the Police station that they bring the animals straight to us if an owner gets arrested, and we then get the owners family to come and sign and take the animal home. The Police cannot be bothered to do this paperwork, but we can and do.
