Luxor Life

Unfortunately Egypt still has a huge rich/poor divide, and is still officially classed as a third world country.  Many people visiting Egypt to see all of the temples and tombs, forget or are unaware of this.  Here are some of the scenes of the way of life in Luxor today, behind the five star hotels.

In Luxor where we work, many of the people are living hand to mouth, so planning for the future often does not enter their thoughts, not when they can't even be sure of what the next few days will bring.  This makes it very difficult for us to impress home the importance of maintaining their working animals, or indeed maintaining anything!  However, gradually, through example and good results, we are getting the message through.  We are seeing more and more families not only taking better care to maintain their animals, but even their carts and possessions too .....
