Farm Animals

We offer only emergency services and care to farm animals, which are usually birthing problems.
If a farm animal comes in that is sick and needs a course of antibiotics, we need to give the first injection and advise the owners to bring the animal back for the next. Generally they don't. They also need to wait for a withdrawal period before slaughtering the animal for the food industry.
However, the owners are more likely to slaughter the animal quickly, before it gets sicker as they are at risk of loosing money otherwise. This means the antibiotic is in the meat, getting into the food chain and affecting the humans who consume it.
ACE has a responsibility to do the best for people as well as animals.
Also, the Veterinary Services are responsible for the animals in the meat trade. When the owners visit Veterinary Services for treatment, they also get safe vaccinations for the meat trade, which are free at certain times of the year when it is important that they are administered.

If they come to us rather than to Veterinary Services, because we are nearer, or for any other reason, then they miss out on these important vaccinations. These vaccinations are only available at Veterinary Services and that is the purpose of Veterinary Services to provide these, and to keep the meat industry safe.
In contrast the Veterinary Services do not treat horses, donkeys, cats, dogs etc, because they are responsible for meat trade animals only.
This also allows us to concentrate on the working and other animals, without doubling up on a service and using essential much needed funds on things that are provided elsewhere.
