Education
Word of mouth is one of the best tools in Egypt. By teaching people that the sooner they come to get their animals wounds or ailments checked out by our Vets, the quicker we can get them better, or the more likely that we can save their lives.
When we first opened, if a horse was in a road traffic accident or extremely ill the animal would often be left "In Gods hands" for 10 days or so. Only when the owner thought the animal might die, would they consider bringing it to us to see if we could 'fix it'! At this point in time, the animals whole body could be septic.
Over the years we have noted that this is gradually changing and people are bringing their animals to us much quicker if not immediately, enabling us to save far more animals rather than just being able to relieve their suffering and putting them to sleep. This of course also means the people don't loose their means of livelihood.
This message is getting through from all our staff, volunteers and Vets constantly teaching and telling every owner that comes through our gates, what we can do, and how things can be prevented or helped if we had seen the animal sooner.
We also have an Education programme with local schools; so we can teach children, and help them understand that all animals have feelings, feel pain and deserve respect, before they start their life long career of working with animals.
Julie spent many many months organising and fundraising for the benefit of the children and animals, and secured some essential funding from PETA, SPANA, and the Persula Foundation who are also working in education.
