What we do

PREVENTION  ♦  MAINTENANCE  ♦  EDUCATION

ACE was opened in Luxor in July 2000 by two animal lovers, Julie and Kim, who had initially come to Egypt on holiday.  They were so distressed by the condition of the horses, donkeys and animals they saw around Luxor, they were determined to do something to help.

ACE started as a simple idea to give these animals a break from their long working day in the hot sun, somewhere they could have their tack removed, a wash and a drink.  The dirt and sweat under the tack was rubbing, causing sores and eventually open wounds.  Now many of these sores are being prevented, by teaching the owners to regularly wash their animals.  However we realised the desperate need for full veterinary facilities in order to treat a lot of the cases and animals that we were seeing.  We wanted these facilities to be working to UK standards of Veterinary practice.

The poor people of Egypt rely on their animals to feed, clothe and house their families.  ACE provides these people with a place to bring their animals to be fixed.  We provide free Veterinary services to the local poor people, so that they can have healthier animals and continue feeding their families.
